ㅤbiographyㅤIt is hard to pin down where, or when exactly in Coerthas, Eri was born. It was, by her account, a simple place, with simple people; the son of a local Lord as a father, gone by the time her mother’s belly began to swell. Her mother did her best to raise her right, teaching her the usual arts a woman might need to know in her life; to sew, to cook, and clean, enough to get by.For the young girl, however, getting by wasn’t good enough; she craved more. The small village where she was born stifled her, and she looked each year to the passing caravans with curiosity and hope. She had long since given up on finding her father in such a place, but instead, she wondered at what his life might have been, traveling endlessly, the adventure and danger of war that a man could prefer over the simple daily drudgery of life in such a small village. It helped her little that she had terribly little interest in such mundane things as homemaking; it was more common to find her in the fields or forest than in the town, hunting around for suitably spear-like sticks with which to duel and fence the young boys of the village, coming home with mud and cuts like decorations on her clothing. Her dream to one day leave this small village and become an adventure like in the stories. Thus with a rumor of being impulsive and hot-headed, Eri earned a reputation as a troublemaker, and her loudly announced ambitions to depart the town came with a mixture of worry and hope.But as the Dragonsong war raged on and times grew harder, her mother, a simple village woman, knew it would be best for her daughter to be sent elsewhere. The woman's prayers would be answered as the girl’s opportunity to travel outside her small village came, during mid-summer. A Merchant came out of the foggy mounts north of the village, on his usual route, to sell his wares despite the war. Over the years, he had witnessed the growing prowess of the young woman, and her ever-greater dissatisfaction with her home. He offered to take her on, with him, as he made his rounds toward the city of Ishgard, and even paid her for her time.

― Skills of the Trade

The Merchant was well-known in the village, as he made a circuit, beginning and ending at the city states to the south, which would take him most of a year. The girl accompanied him along his trip and learned a great deal about the roads, and the ways around the land.Her instinctive feel for the land served them well, with unusually thick patches of the Mist hardly slowing them, as her sure reckoning carried them through forest and mountains, where compasses went mad, and the road seemed to twist and vanish. He taught her mercantile sense, the relative values of various items and currencies, which they found as they traveled through the lands. After nearly six months of travel, Ishgard having come and left, he finally began to teach her the use of various weapons. As any child that grew up in the smaller villages, she knew the basics of blade and bow, but little more than was necessary to drive off hostile animals which occasionally wandered near her village’s farms. She learned the value of a weapon worn openly and the value of a weapon concealed; She learned the value of silence, and in time, she learned the value of a good deck of cards.By the end of that first year, she was proficient with bits of magic and the rapier she wore at her hip, and a lovely set of cards she carried with her wherever she went. She could identify any of a number of different herbs that would be encountered along the edge of the road or the depths of the forest. She could brew a cure for any of a few minor diseases and poisons. A decent start in the alchemical skills she grew to love. It was with her mentor she learned her love for travel along with the stories of history told to her.

― Mealvaan's Gate

She traveled with him over the course of another few years, finally taking her leave of him in Limsa Lominsa, to stay with family long removed from the struggles of Coerthas and gain the opportunity to settle her curiosity in the halls of Mealvaan’s Gate. A place where her mercantile sense and love for history would come hand in hand. For the arcanists who man Mealvaan’s Gate were seen as "assessors" and were well versed in sums and the art of trade... while also having established the Arcanists' Guild within so as to train newcomers to their art.Upon his return to the city, nearly a year later, the Merchant was to give the young woman one last gift – a brilent but oddly shaped red stone.Over the years, Eri found that her travels for the arcanist guild took her further and further from both Coerthas and Limsa… and soon adulthood brought more of the same; more and more refinement onto the purpose that she had gained for herself among the arcanist of Mealvann’s Gate. The sense of adventure and danger kept her on her toes, and the fiercely competitive nature of the shadows drove her to excel, carrying out tasks of increasing complexity and risk in exchange for greater wealth and standing amongst her peers. Eventually joining up with what she had thought was a group of questionable individuals, but soon learning it was something far more than that: It was a cult, worshiping a Faceless being.A theocratic organization dedicated to manipulation and control, with their strings reaching through even the higher levels of power. It was unclear what the actual reach of the organization was; it had agents in so many other, similar organizations, that it was almost impossible to tell where one organization ended and the next began. It was a nearly endless ladder for Eri to climb, and her competence saw her raised by one rung at a time. From a mere apprentice in the arcanist guild to an independent agent, moving from town to town, city to city; her job was what they liked to call adjustments. Information gathering, collecting artifacts, bribery, passing and retrieving messages - and, when called for, assassination.

― Downfall

What was nearly her downfall, however, was an adjustment of her own. She took up residence in a middling city of some regional importance, working as an adventurer; a perfect cover for all kinds of intrigues and a perfect excuse to be anywhere she was needed. It was there, on a quest to deal with a local infestation, that she ended up quite unexpectedly falling in love with a local guardsman, a naive but optimistic and dependable man by the name of Brin. What began as a dalliance became a habit, and from a habit, a routine. Her work kept bringing them together, many days spent in the field, keeping the area safe, exploring ruins, investigating disappearances; many of these things, being threats to the stability of the area, were well within her wheelhouse already; the fact that she was going with Brin was just a convenient addition. It was easier that way; to just keep doing her job, even if it meant focusing on the parts of it that meant she could be with Brin. The routine, eventually, became marriage, deepening her cover identity, entrenching herself in the city. Of course, the difference between that and settling down was, even to her, a hard line to draw. She grew comfortable there, and her ambition waned; after all, she had a good life, money, and a happy household; she even bore a child, a son. What more could she desire from life?In truth, such comfort was a mistake; she let her guard down and strayed from her duties to the Cult. When the time came for her to be reassigned, to leave the city and cut her ties… She found she could not. Would not. Her love for Brin had gone from a habit, a routine, into full-fledged love and devotion. She could not bear the thought of leaving him, and knew she could not take him with her, either. Instead, she chose a third option - to cut ties with the Cult, collect her dues for her service, and to become the woman she had been pretending to be.This was, however, not to be, for the Cult was deeply reluctant to surrender such a valuable asset.......Instead, she vanished in the night without a word to her family, reluctantly resuming her duties to the Cult, knowing that an invisible blade hung over their heads and that any misstep on her part would result in their deaths. At first, she kept an ear out, listened for them, and made sure that they were alive and well taken care of. Made sure that the Cult had not simply put an end to them. Of course, all things wane with time and distance, and the pain of her memories dulled her desire to keep looking; what good would it do her? If the Cult had decided they would die, they would already be dead. Perhaps the best way to safeguard them was to let them go; then the Cult would have no reason to kill them, no need for them. Months turned into years; years, into what felt like a lifetime. Still, she did not turn her eyes to home, to the family she knew waited for her. First out of fear, then out of habit; and habit became routine, became memories, buried where she would not dig them up on accident, no wandering thought to bring a shock of pain and the threat of tears.

― Into the Shadows

She was taken deep into Coerthas under cover of night... With the war in full swing, it had led to a divided populace, with each village, small city, and holdfast keeping loyalty first and foremost to itself and its Noble House. Her mission was to gather any information she could, acting as nothing more than a simple merchant, low on her luck as supplies slowly dwindled. To learn of the merchants that still held power and were able to still get goods into the locked-down city of Ishgard.It was during this time learned of a minor Merchant Lord and rancher, by the name of Charlemont that had begun uniting the smaller merchants his banner, using a mixture of politics, chocobos, and persuasion. A very successful merchant, he had made his great fortunes because of the war and the fine breeding of his birds. Though there was a rumor that the man had stolen his home Holdfast from its’ reigning Knights, establishing himself as a Lord over the lands he called his own.But she also learned of other things... the poor souls left to the cold and the men that did nothing to protect them. Yet, more than that, she learned of the fate of her mother and the path the war and never ending snow had driven her down.Two weeks of travel brought her into the camp of minor merchants and knights. She rode into their camp atop a small Chocobo, saddled simply, and ingratiated herself with the various people of the camp, posing as a traveling merchant. She displayed her various minor wares and traded them for bits of coin and gossip. Once she had acquired the needed information, she moved on, paying a visit next to Charlemont’s holdfast. Seeking the information she needed...The Cult would her on a handful more occasions, and her prestige as an infiltrator rapidly grew, as did her prowess with her other talents. Amply rewarded for each mission, she was fairly well-off within Coerthas during the end of the war, though her missions often took her far and wide.

Often, she has inquired about the location of cults and is often open about her search for the odd trinkets used in questionable rituals. From exploring occult artifacts to hunting down Cults up to no good. There is nothing like a good Horror story to get the muse working.

With a steady hand, the Gleaner is known for her delicate work when it comes to creating tattoos. Working beautiful pieces of art onto one’s skin with a single needle, her art is more of a hobby than an actual business. In truth, such work comes from the woman’s knowledge of old runes and warding … which she used to keep evils and magics at bay. But it's not just skin she is used to working with... rather her true skill of warding shines when working wood and stone. That being said, she is always seeking new clients.

Stars & Cards

While not a seer in name, there has always been a great personal interest in such talents such as reading the stars and understanding the will of the fates. In truth, Eri always had a knack when it came to cards and reading the weaves of power that flow around us. As an academic of the arcane, she has some understanding of how unseen powers shape the star and everyone on it. However, there is a hunger inside her to know more. To learn how to read and shape those flows and the fates that bind us.

The World Between

Not all Dreamers can Dreamwalk and not all Dreamwalkers are Dreamers... but this is not always the case. While experienced Dreamwalkers have the ability to enter the dreams of others, though doing this is extremely dangerous, Dreaming is the Talent of having dreams that foretell possible future events. Though a dream does not tell of what will be, only of what might be. Interpretations that are never straightforward; knowing that dreams told only hold one possible future, but was usually the most likely future.

Known in Ishgard as Erista de Charlmort -- After spending the better part of two years studying in Old Sharlayan, the young Lady of House Charlmort is rumored to be returning to her work within Ishgard's Scholastic... at least on a part-time basis. With her husband returning to help with family affairs, the young woman now finds herself focused on aiding and advising her husband's House. With airship routes now offering trade between Thavnair, Hingashi, & Ishgard, along with their Chocobo ranches -- it seems that House Charlmort is doing quite well for itself after the end of the Dragonsong war. However, having been gone for so long, the young Lady finds herself looking to rebuild her connections and relations.However... it seems that Eri and her husband are also often seen in the Far East and rumors say that the couple has work there within one of the Free Companies there.

What is known is Eri, the third of her mother's line, is more known for being the Daughter of Alvarada rather than a Navigator in her own right. While she has only been on her own for a little over a decade, her mother, on the other hand, is known not only for being a Matriarch of her Nomatic House but having been the Navigator of a well-known Rogue Trader House.Those that know Eri's mother, know to fear the wrath she is so well known for. Eri, on the other hand, seems to be nothing like her mother when it comes to personality. Mild-mannered, and even-tempered, there are those who often forget that the Navigator commands her station with grace and authority, with a cold anger that is known for keeping even bridge officers in their place.
